Style

Coachella is officially one month away and I have festival style on my mind. Which is why this post is so important, we are all wondering what to wear to a music festival, how to style it, & where to actually get the outfit. In recent years festival style has blown up and at this point I’m sure we are all ready for the overload of crochet, fringe, and flower crowns.

While some outfits are best left in the desert, for the most part I love festival style and find myself inspired by it – I love incorporating bohemian touches into my everyday outfits. I love the carefree vibes of music festivals and of course, let’s not forget about the music ; ).

What to Wear to a Music Festival

See what to wear to a music festival + my festival outfit tips below – at the end of the day, you may be camping outdoors or in the middle of harsh terrain (the desert) so it’s important to make attire choices that are both cute and practical.

Ideal Music Festival Outfits:

Rompers

I love rompers – they’re so, so easy. One piece and you’re done getting dressed – perfect for running around all day. A word of caution, though – you will have to take the whole thing off every time you go to the bathroom, which can be a pain (do NOT try pulling it to the side, you will have disastrous results)

Two Piece Sets

Yes, please to matching sets! Or, the romper’s more bathroom friendly cousin. You can wear together if you’re feeling matchy-matchy, or mix and match with other pieces in your closet. Super versatile and comfortable. Pick one in a breathable fabric that will keep you cool during the day. Bodysuits are also great if you can find a matching skirt or pair of shorts. For more on bodysuits, see how to wear a bodysuit.

Tops

Crop tops, off the shoulder tops, and bodysuit get my vote. Look for pieces that don’t need to be adjusted often – you want to be able to dance around all day without having to fix your outfit constantly.

Maxi skirts & dresses

Nothing makes me feel more like a gypsy fairy princess than a silky, flowy maxi. Pair a skirt with a crop top for a stylish look that won’t drag you down.

Shoes

I prefer to stick to closed toe shoes – it’s so easy to get your toes stepped on when there are so many people around you, and nothing will ruin your mood more quickly than walking around with bruised feet. Sneakers are by far the most comfortable shoe choice – you don’t even realize how much you end up walking by the end of the weekend. I like booties as well, although I would avoid anything with a noticeable heel. And of course, you can’t forget about sandals – a fierce pair of gladiators will make any outfit.

Accessories

A floppy hat will always make an outfit – and they are a particularly great idea for days when you’re going to be in the sun all day. Of course you’ll be wearing sunscreen (!!) but that extra layer of protection from the sun for your face will be a lifesaver – no one wants to deal with a peeling sunburn in the middle of a music festival.

As for sunglasses, leave your designer pairs at home and pick up a cheap pair or two that you won’t mind losing or breaking. Have fun with round, embellished, or mirrored lenses!

Add finishing touches to your outfit with jewelry, body jewels, glitter, and Flash Tats! Keep a bandana handy as well to tie around your neck or use as a face mask when the dust kicks up.

Are you going to any festivals this year? I’d love to hear your thoughts on what to wear!

Apparently, I’ve been feeling outer space vibes lately (remember this dress?). While I normally turn to Jen’s Pirate Booty for flowy, beach ready pieces that are ideal for the sun and beach, this particular black and silver Jen’s Pirate Booty mini dress caught my eye with its play on lace and embroidered pattern. It also comes in two different maxi versions (here and here) that are equally gorgeous! As always, Jen’s Pirate Booty comes through with dreamy pieces that are perfect for any occasion. This mini has been a go-to even for the office. The silver and black color palette is also perfect for layering on accessories or keeping it simple.

Without a doubt, every season Jen’s Pirate Booty releases new gauzy, beach ready tunics and blouses and gorgeous, intricate lace tops and dresses. If you’re unsure about the price, you can also stalk the pieces until they go on sale at online shops such as Planet Blue and Revolve. I love the variety – no matter the style, you can be sure that Jen’s Pirate Booty will deliver on something boho inspired and perfect for any California girl at heart.

I shot this dress at the Bates Motel in Silver Lake

It is one of my favorite neighborhoods in LA. Also, I love that the entire building and its exterior was painted white – even the palm trees outside – the exhibition was truly stunning with the stark white standing out against the otherwise normal street. The rain has since then washed the bright white away, but a lot of the color is still there. If you’re new to LA or visiting, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Be sure to stop into a boutique or find a Jen’s Pirate Booty dress online – you won’t be disappointed ; ).

Blue Life Romper

Florals for spring? Groundbreaking. But I couldn’t pass up the chance to combine my love for rompers (see here, here, and here) and florals. I can’t help it, I love florals and prints and try to incorporate those in my wardrobe as much as I can (neutrals – I love you too, but warmer weather for me means more color). This romper from Planet Blue will be a springtime staple in my closet as it is perfect for day and so easy to dress up for night. I’m all about effortless outfits, and I can’t think of anything easier than a onesie (romper). I’ve linked to several similar rompers below so take a look and let me know what you think!

As a transplant to LA from the midwest, I am loving every minute of this warm weather and will take advantage of every opportunity to dress for spring. Understanding that this isn’t the case in most places, consider this a sneak peak of what’s to come : ).

Also, if you follow me on Instagram you’ve probably seen my posts on Ditto (if not, you should follow me for more outfit inspo and snapshots into my daily life!). In case you haven’t heard, Ditto is a subscription service that gives you unlimited access to designer sunglasses for only $24 a month. There are some seriously cute options available, like these Prada glasses I wore here or the mirrored Ray-Bans I’m wearing with this outfit.

If you’re interested in trying it out, you can use my code THELUXILOOK to get one month free – let me know if you have any questions!

I found my new favorite dress – the Realisation Par Diane dress. This star-printed number from Realisation Par is everything you could want in a dress: fun, flirty, just short enough, and adjustable to flatter every figure. The ruffles and cute print let this dress speak for itself, no need to go crazy with the jewelry or accessories.

As you guys know, I love to keep my style versatile. But if I could only wear one type of clothing for the rest of my life, it would be a sundress. Little white dress season is my favorite. I love them in every variation – I’m an endless summer kind of girl (and have been absolutely loving this warmer weather we’ve been having) and nothing screams summer to me more than undone hair, clean beauty products for fresh makeup, and a silky flowy dress.

Update: I’ve received tons of questions on this dress, so I thought I would answer them here. First, it is an amazing dress. If you’re thinking about ordering it, I would do it, as it sells out often! If this dress is sold out, here are tons of options for flirty summer dresses.

I ordered the dress in an XXS and am happy with the length and fit. The material is quite thin, but not sheer. The front can be a little low, so if you’re looking to be a little more conservative, feel free to throw on a slip underneath.

The dress is adjustable around the waist, that gives some wiggle room as well. I will say that this dress is a little short (I would not wear it to my corporate job), so taller girls may want to size up for additional length.

Oh, and as with all wrap dresses – be careful wearing this on a windy day ; ).

For reference, I’m 5’5 and typically a 0 in US sizing, AUS 4-6, and UK 6. Hopefully that helps. Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any additional questions or email me at [email protected]. OR let’s connect on social: BLOGLOVIN and INSTAGRAM.

If you’re looking for a super cute black & white dress, check out this Jen’s Pirate Booty Dress. It’s one of my absolute favorites!

Ring My Bell

Bell bottoms are always a good idea. I bought this printed pair by Novella Royale a couple of years ago. I have managed to wear them to death. They’re re-released in new colors and prints every season and I’m tempted to pick up a few more pairs as well.

Ring My Bell

Reasons why I love them? They’re 1. insanely soft and comfortable (aka slightly more acceptable leggings in public). Second, a fun alternative to jeans (they definitely stand out, and I receive compliments on them every time I wear them). Three, so easy to coordinate with other pieces in your closet. I tend to stick with neutral colored tops and wear with a leather or denim jacket over. However, the sky is the limit when it comes to these technicolor bells.

Here I paired my bells with a loose crop top (this crop goes with everything and is on sale right now!), a super easy wrap choker, my favorite belt at the moment (see here for save vs. spend versions) and mirrored sunglasses. If you’re looking for cute sunnies that won’t break the bank, look no further than Quay. They’re my go-to brand for festivals. It’s also great for daytime activities when you don’t want to worry about losing or breaking a more expensive pair.

Shop items from this look below. Let me know what you think of these flared pants. Also, I think they’re perfect for festival season (coming up so soon)! Have a great week, dolls!
