Mesh Turtleneck

Mesh Turtleneck | The Luxi Look

Happy Tuesday! Got back to LA yesterday and got straight back into the swing of things. November was a crazy month and I know December will be too… it’s been a busy couple of months between work and blogging!

AND my blog anniversary is coming up – can’t believe it’s been almost a year! In the meantime, I want to re-incorporate more styling tips and outfits – especially work outfits. I’d be dishonest if I pretended I could wear everything I post on my blog to the office – so let’s talk about a versatile layering piece today – the mesh turtleneck!

This
top from Reformation has been a fall staple – it’s THE perfect layering piece. Or if you’re feeling bold you can wear it on its own with a bralette underneath. Unfortunately, XS, S and XL are all waitlist only currently (tear) – but if you add your email, you’ll get a notification when the top is back in stock. I’ve also linked some similar styles below if you can’t wait.

A few different ways I’ve been wearing this top:

On its own with a black bralette underneath. I like it with high waisted jeans or a denim skirt (or any skirt for that matter).

Underneath a dress. If you’re going for a 90s look, you can wear it under a slip dress. Otherwise really any dress works – I’ve been wearing this top a lot to work actually (yes, it’s appropriate for the office!) under a sleeveless suede dress.

On a similar note, this top is great under a silk or velvet camisole. Really, you can’t go wrong! You’d be surprised how many times I’ve thrown this top on when I’m having one of those “I have nothing to wear” days. It fits nicely under a leather jacket or one of the cozy cardigans I’ve been living in lately as well. Hopefully this inspires you to wear a mesh turtleneck as well – it’s truly a surprisingly versatile piece!

p.s. – There are still a bunch of great sales going on – be sure to check them out here!

Have a great week, everyone!

xx, Amy

Sweater Weather

Sweater Weather | The Luxi Look

Let’s be real, given the time of year and the beginning of winter / feast season, most of us have been living in sweaters for some time now. It’s funny how people die for sweater weather in SoCal. As someone who grew up in the midwest I can tell you the cold is NOT all it’s cracked up to be. With that being said, I’m all about embracing the season of chunky, oversized knits (I regularly buy my sweaters 2 sizes too big) and am celebrating the advent of sweater weather wholeheartedly.

This chunky sweater by dRA is my absolute favorite piece in my closet right now. Ask anyone who knows me – I cannot. stop. wearing it! It’s beyond cozy and the slightly oversized. It’s drape-y fit makes it versatile enough to dress up or down! I love wearing it with my Gold Hawk set (pjs or clothes? we’ll never know), skinny jeans, a denim skirt, whatever I feel like that day. Sure, it might get a little dirty because it’s cream, but honestly nothing a little wash cycle or dry cleaning can’t fix.

With proper care, a nice sweater can last you for years – I always make a point to invest in one (or two) nice knits a year. In my opinion, a good slouchy sweater will never be out of style. I tend to stick to neutrals (white, cream, tan, grey, black) and have convinced myself I need every oversized style in every color.

Some of my favorite brands for knits and sweaters: Free People, Vince, Aritzia, and Acne. You can find on trend styles at fast fashion sites, but if you’re going to splurge on winter clothing it should be sweaters and coats. Invest in the nicer fabric, it will be worth it when you find yourself living in it for half the year. I’ve linked my favorite sweater picks below : ).

Pajama Set

Back to the topic of Gold Hawk, I have never loved a pajama set more. Their intimates are so luxe and functional (pockets in shorts, check!), I’m not even ashamed to admit I’ve worn this set out and to sleep. Not in the same go though (yet). I think I love and want everything on their site…

Speaking of sweater weather, it’s also the season of Netflix and chill… so what’s everyone watching these days? I’m not normally the biggest fan of TV but Westworld has me HOOKED. Cannot wait for the season finale!

As always, thank you for reading!

Happy Thanksgiving! In between turkey and pie, don’t forget to shop Black Friday sales online! Gone are the days you had to actually wait until Friday to shop sales – there have been some fantastic deals going on all week! And we’re not even talking about Cyber Monday (yet). To be honest, you’ll see a ton of deals between now and the end of the year as stores try to clear out winter merchandise over Thanksgiving, before Christmas, after Christmas, and after the New Year. I’ve lived in LA for over two years now but have yet to fully explore the Venice Boardwalk. Partially because… it’s a bit of an interesting scene and I really dislike large crowds/tourist attractions. One day I decided to get up early and check out the beach, rent a bike, and actually explore a part of the city I’ve been dying to see more of! I love Venice – if nothing else this part of town is so full of character and such a welcome change from West Hollywood!

If you go early enough, you can beat the crowds and get the boardwalk mostly to yourself. I also get asked a lot by my out of town friends how often I make it to the beach – the answer is embarrassingly only a couple times a year, at best! One of my resolutions (why wait for 2017 when you can start now?!) is to explore the city more and not make distance/traffic/other excuses a barrier to making the most of where I live.

Dove Dry Spray

Even in November, LA can be hot, hot, hot – and the last thing you want is to be a sweaty mess (especially when wearing all white – eek!). Thank god for deodorant. My favorite deodorant now comes in a spray version – Dove Dry Spray deo smells amazing (the cucumber scent has been my go to for YEARS and translates wonderfully in the spray version), dries instantly, and keeps you fresh for 48 hours. What’s not to love?

Thank you to Dove and Simply for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are my own.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving babes!

The hunt for the perfect pair of vintage Levi’s isn’t easy. If you’re like me and love vintage denim but don’t want to spend your weekends scouring flea markets and vintage stores for the perfect fit, you’ll want to go the route of having the work already done for you. Enter Re/Done denim – one of a kind, repurposed vintage Levi’s. No two pairs are the same, so don’t be shy about trying on a few different sizes/washes/fits before fully committing.

I finally bit the bullet on buying a pair this year (I have the shorts and high rise cropped) and while I’m sure you could get similar denim for a fraction of the price, the time and energy I saved was well worth the cost. It also takes the guesswork out of sizing – as many of you probably already know, sizing on vintage denim is a bitch and it can be a nightmare trying to figure out what size you are depending on the year/style/cut. Besides, denim trends are cyclical and I’m a fan of mom jeans for life.

The older I get, the more I fall in love with denim (despite my natural aversion to wearing pants or anything particularly constricting). The best part of vintage denim is it only gets better with wear. The material really stretches to fit your body. And softens to the point where you just want to wear them all day long.

Also now that it’s winter and we’re in the thick of the holiday season I can’t stop wearing faux fur jackets. Thankfully there are so many great options at every price point this year.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving week! Debating whether or not to do a holiday gift guide. It seems like there are SO many floating out there. LMK if this is something you’d like to see!
