Part 2 of my summer shoe trend roundup features my favorite shoe of the season – platforms! (see part 1 here.)

Platforms are by far the most comfortable way to add a little height and they happen to be everywhere at the moment. I’m loving flatforms, 70’s inspired sandals, and clogs. Yes, clogs! Love them or hate them, they seem to be one of those shoes that comes back around every few years or so. Read on for my top platform shoe choices.

Platforms For Summer

1. Steve Madden Lavii

Yes, please to wood platforms and stud detailing on these retro inspired sandals! I snagged these a few weekends ago at Nordstrom* and have been finding various ways to incorporate them into my daily wear. The nude color is perfect as well for giving the illusion of longer legs.

2. Sigerson Morrison Cosie

Combining espadrilles with a flatform silhouette, I am loving these wrap around yellow sandals (worn here). Available in other colors as well, but I personally find the brightness of the yellow to be the most fun : ).

3. Jeffrey Campbell Aldona

Add some flare to your outfit by pairing these heeled mules with cropped jeans or denim shorts.

4. Dolce Vita Melina

The wooden sole and neutral colored straps make these the perfect everyday sandal to wear. These will go with everything in your closet, and I can attest for the quality of Dolce Vita shoes.

5. Stuart Weitzman Real Deal

If you’re looking for shoes to splurge on, Stuart Weitzman is my go-to designer for classic styles that last forever. I love them in the “Haze” or “Camel” suede, but you can’t go wrong.

Shopping Tip

Many retailers will price match items. I do 99% of my shopping online, which makes it very easy to do a fast price comparison, but in this particular instance, I happened to be in an actual store. Honestly, I highly suggest finding the product name (usually listed on the shoe box) and looking it up quickly on Google. I was able to get these shoes marked down from $100 to $60 just by showing the sales associate the cheaper link! Nordstrom is amazing about this (seriously, best customer service ever!!) but many other retailers will price match as well, so always check their policies online or ask nicely in store!

Happy Shopping!

Everything old is new again…

When it comes to fashion and trends, I can appreciate a blast from the past and at the same time be somewhat horrified that I’m getting old enough to realize that trends always come back in style. You can probably guess how well this newfound realization is going with my internal commitment to “spring clean” my closet.

What Goes Around…

It’s as if now I can totally justify not throwing any of my clothes away – after all, I’ll be able to wear it again in a decade or two, am I right?? Perfect case in point: denim skirts. This high school staple has found its way back into my closet and it has been on heavy rotation.

I bought this particular skirt from Urban Outfitters, but I think vintage is best (I’m still on the hunt for the perfect denim skirt – a trip to the Rose Bowl or Melrose Trading Post is long past due…). For those of you with more patience and a better eye for scoping out treasures than me, I recommend going to a flea market and looking there. Remember to go up a few sizes if you decide to go vintage – I’ll do a post on buying vintage Levi’s soon.

I’m planning on doing a little DIY with this skirt and distressing it myself – I’m not usually one to DIY so this may or may not turn out terribly, I’ll keep you posted! If you don’t still have your old denim skirts from the early 2000s in your closet, check out some cute styles I found online below. Dress them up or down the way you would with your favorite jeans or shorts – the options are really endless.

What are your thoughts on denim skirts? Will you be wearing one this summer?

I have a soft spot in my heart for the color purple – the color represents my childhood state’s football team, my alma mater, and the shade most widely associated with the artist formerly known as Prince (also from my childhood state).

We haven’t had much rain in LA lately (is it just me, or did El Niño feel relatively tame?) but this purple off the shoulder number is one of my favorites at the moment. As you can probably tell, it was super windy this particular day – my hair was blowing all over the place.

I’ve been looking ways to incorporate my new flatforms into my outfits. I couldn’t resist this shoe in yellow, which I think might be my favorite color to wear this season. Although I was initially hesitant to bite the bullet on such a bright color (I usually stick to neutral shoes), the yellow adds the brightest pop of color to any outfit and is surprisingly versatile. Yellow and purple are complimentary colors after all ; ). I’ll definitely be wearing these shoes all summer.

This dress is my first item from the brand Somedays Lovin but will certainly not be my last! Like everyone else on the planet, I’ve been a huge fan of everything off-the-shoulder.

I love the assortment of colorful printed dresses and rompers by Somedays Lovin for summer. Check out some of my favorite items from their latest collection below.

What new brands have you  been crushing on lately?

It’s officially almost summer, and you know what that means. Time to get a pedicure, because it’s sandal season! As much as it pains me to say goodbye to my beloved booties, warmer temps means exposed legs and toes. I’ve rounded up my top sandal trends this season and will be highlighting them over the next few weeks. This week’s picks: embellished sandals.

I’ve been seeing pom poms and tassels everywhere this spring. I have yet to snag a pair for my closet, but I think they’re a great way to add some flair to your outfit.

See my top 5 options below. Happy shopping!

Spell Carnaby Crop for Coachella Outfits

Weekend 2 of Coachella wrapped up this past weekend, but festival season is only just beginning. As much as I love the atmosphere and music of festivals, I absolutely adore festival style and wish I could dress like I was attending Coachella everyday. Part of the fun might actually be in wearing outfits that don’t translate to the street and only work on festival grounds. As with my usual style, I made sure to keep my festival outfits easy, comfortable, and functional.

Coachella Outfits

Day 1: crochet and fringe are staples in any boho child’s wardrobe, and I incorporated both throughout the weekend.

This backpack was an absolute lifesaver. If you can get away with carrying a tiny pouch for the weekend, that’s probably the best option, but I really wanted to be prepared for each day so I opted for a backpack instead of a heavy bag. I made sure to keep it packed with a jacket (it gets surprisingly cold at night), sunscreen, and a bottle of water.

Beach Riot Quartz Top Nasty Gal Festival Style

Day 2: I paired a bikini top with a sheer maxi for a look that was effortless yet kept me cool during the day.

At night, I threw on a printed kimono (not pictured) to stay warm. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to fully shoot this look so I only have a few photos. Fortunately, I was able to meet up with fellow LA based blogger and YouTuber Lizbeth, who happens to be the sweetest person and was able to snap a couple shots for me on the cam she brought with her into the festival.

You can’t really tell in these photos, but I also accessorized with some Body Bauble on this day (think: jewels for your face and bod) – I wore these last year at Lollapalooza as well, they’re a super fun way to add a little something to your outfit.

Stone Cold Fox Festival

Day 3: I’m not sure what I wore before two piece sets, but they have my heart.

At this point in the weekend I was slightly sunburned (despite wearing SPF 50 religiously everyday) and needed to opt out of the sun as much as possible, so a big hat was a must. I also found out, thanks to my girlfriend’s fitness tracker, that we walked between 8-10 miles a day, so proper footwear is essential for running around.

Stone Cold Fox Festival

Taylor Swift said “chokers are the new flower crowns” and I have to agree, it was by far one of the most prevalent trends I saw at the festival. It seems like everyone is loving the revival of the 90s and I don’t blame them. Scarves/bandanas are a fun twist on tying something around your neck, bonus points for being very practical in the desert because there is pretty much a dust storm everyday.

I’m already counting down the days until next year…

I’d love to see your festival looks as well and hear about which festivals you’re planning on attending – do share! As always, thanks for reading.
