Embroidered Denim

Embroidered Denim | The Luxi Look

Lately I’ve been on a huge denim kick. Embroidered denim is one of my favorite denim trends this year – it adds a fun detail to any outfit in a subtle (or not so subtle, depending on how you like it) way. If you’re really crafty you could even DIY. I love a good vintage jacket with embroidered detailing and pins, but the options are endless.

I love a good oversized denim jacket, women jeans, and this embroidered piece from one of my favorite brands Planet Blue adds a kick to a good old denim on denim look. You can throw on one of your favorite tops underneath, add an accessory or two, and be good to go! I’ve linked some of my favorite embroidered denim picks below. If you’re brave and ambitious, definitely go the vintage route and scour your local flea market or thrift store.

On an unrelated note, I know this time of year is big on shopping, gifting, and giving. In the spirit of giving, I thought I’d quickly share some ways to give back. This time of year is filled with joy and light, but it’s also a difficult time of year for a lot of families. One of my goals for the new year is to give back to the community more. I know this is important for many people, but it isn’t always obvious how or where to do so.  I spent last Saturday volunteering downtown and it reminded me how important service and volunteerism is to me. If you’re looking for easy ways to give back, consider giving up a little bit of your time, energy, or resources this holiday season. This is a great list of organizations to donate to this December, if you’re interested.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Hey babes! Happy December! We’re officially in the home stretch of 2016. From now until January there will be countless occasions to dress up from holiday parties to NYE. I figured I’d get a head start on something for once and round up the best holiday party dresses. Now is the time to pull out all the stops and be as glittery and sparkly as your heart desires! If you’re into something a little more subtle, don’t worry – there are countless silk/lace/velvet options out there for you as well. I’m always a fan of the jumpsuit to mix things up as well ; ).

ALSO – if you haven’t checked out LPA yet, do so now! I can’t get enough of this line. Every single piece in the collection is a complete showstopper. This particular dress caught my eye – I am in love with the color (“toffee”), cutouts, and material (be sure to have a steamer on hand – it wrinkles easily). Perfect for any upcoming holiday party! Hope you find the perfect outfit for your holiday festivities – shop my favorite holiday party dresses (anddd maybe NYE? too soon?) below!

Mesh Turtleneck

Mesh Turtleneck | The Luxi Look

Happy Tuesday! Got back to LA yesterday and got straight back into the swing of things. November was a crazy month and I know December will be too… it’s been a busy couple of months between work and blogging!

AND my blog anniversary is coming up – can’t believe it’s been almost a year! In the meantime, I want to re-incorporate more styling tips and outfits – especially work outfits. I’d be dishonest if I pretended I could wear everything I post on my blog to the office – so let’s talk about a versatile layering piece today – the mesh turtleneck!

This
top from Reformation has been a fall staple – it’s THE perfect layering piece. Or if you’re feeling bold you can wear it on its own with a bralette underneath. Unfortunately, XS, S and XL are all waitlist only currently (tear) – but if you add your email, you’ll get a notification when the top is back in stock. I’ve also linked some similar styles below if you can’t wait.

A few different ways I’ve been wearing this top:

On its own with a black bralette underneath. I like it with high waisted jeans or a denim skirt (or any skirt for that matter).

Underneath a dress. If you’re going for a 90s look, you can wear it under a slip dress. Otherwise really any dress works – I’ve been wearing this top a lot to work actually (yes, it’s appropriate for the office!) under a sleeveless suede dress.

On a similar note, this top is great under a silk or velvet camisole. Really, you can’t go wrong! You’d be surprised how many times I’ve thrown this top on when I’m having one of those “I have nothing to wear” days. It fits nicely under a leather jacket or one of the cozy cardigans I’ve been living in lately as well. Hopefully this inspires you to wear a mesh turtleneck as well – it’s truly a surprisingly versatile piece!

p.s. – There are still a bunch of great sales going on – be sure to check them out here!

Have a great week, everyone!

xx, Amy

Sweater Weather

Sweater Weather | The Luxi Look

Let’s be real, given the time of year and the beginning of winter / feast season, most of us have been living in sweaters for some time now. It’s funny how people die for sweater weather in SoCal. As someone who grew up in the midwest I can tell you the cold is NOT all it’s cracked up to be. With that being said, I’m all about embracing the season of chunky, oversized knits (I regularly buy my sweaters 2 sizes too big) and am celebrating the advent of sweater weather wholeheartedly.

This chunky sweater by dRA is my absolute favorite piece in my closet right now. Ask anyone who knows me – I cannot. stop. wearing it! It’s beyond cozy and the slightly oversized. It’s drape-y fit makes it versatile enough to dress up or down! I love wearing it with my Gold Hawk set (pjs or clothes? we’ll never know), skinny jeans, a denim skirt, whatever I feel like that day. Sure, it might get a little dirty because it’s cream, but honestly nothing a little wash cycle or dry cleaning can’t fix.

With proper care, a nice sweater can last you for years – I always make a point to invest in one (or two) nice knits a year. In my opinion, a good slouchy sweater will never be out of style. I tend to stick to neutrals (white, cream, tan, grey, black) and have convinced myself I need every oversized style in every color.

Some of my favorite brands for knits and sweaters: Free People, Vince, Aritzia, and Acne. You can find on trend styles at fast fashion sites, but if you’re going to splurge on winter clothing it should be sweaters and coats. Invest in the nicer fabric, it will be worth it when you find yourself living in it for half the year. I’ve linked my favorite sweater picks below : ).

Pajama Set

Back to the topic of Gold Hawk, I have never loved a pajama set more. Their intimates are so luxe and functional (pockets in shorts, check!), I’m not even ashamed to admit I’ve worn this set out and to sleep. Not in the same go though (yet). I think I love and want everything on their site…

Speaking of sweater weather, it’s also the season of Netflix and chill… so what’s everyone watching these days? I’m not normally the biggest fan of TV but Westworld has me HOOKED. Cannot wait for the season finale!

As always, thank you for reading!

Happy Thanksgiving! In between turkey and pie, don’t forget to shop Black Friday sales online! Gone are the days you had to actually wait until Friday to shop sales – there have been some fantastic deals going on all week! And we’re not even talking about Cyber Monday (yet). To be honest, you’ll see a ton of deals between now and the end of the year as stores try to clear out winter merchandise over Thanksgiving, before Christmas, after Christmas, and after the New Year. SO even if you don’t feel like shopping till you drop right, now there’ll be plenty of opportunities between now and 2017!
