Chatting with Lifestyle Blogger Camille from Charmed by Camille
It’s hard to believe we’ve been in quarantine for almost 5 months (!!) – the time has absolutely flown by! It’s been a while since my last post, but I’m really excited about today’s interview. I’m interviewing blogger and content creator Camille from Charmed by Camille. Camille is actually one of the first bloggers I met when I started in LA – we connected instantly over a coffee date (cliche, but true!) and we’ve kept in touch ever since – so much during quarantine! She’s kept me upbeat and sane with her always bright and cheery content – especially her weekend quarantine road trips. We spoke about her blog, how she got started, her new creative agency, how to make quarantine less boring, and how she balances it all. It’s a fun read!
Chatting with Lifestyle Blogger Camille from Charmed by Camille
Introduce yourself!
Hi! I’m Camille Carter and I run the blog Charmed by Camille. It’s mostly a fashion and beauty blog, but I sprinkle in some home, recipes, and travel (pre-quarantine) here and there. When I’m not blogging, I’m running K+C Collective, a social content agency that creates visual media for beauty brands.
How did you get into blogging and what has your blogging journey been like?
Charmed by Camille was not a fashion blog at first. I have graphic design experience, and back when I decided on the name, it actually was to make wedding invitations. I had some clients here and there, but I never fully committed to it as a side business. I’d always worked in the fashion industry but got a little burned out so switched over to beauty. I didn’t miss working in fashion, but I did miss being “in the know” on trends and styles. I already had the domain and a website, so I started switching gears on there, started posting some outfits to Instagram, and that the moment Charmed by Camille turned into the blog you know today.
How have you been staying sane during quarantine?
My husband Matt and I took a day trip every Saturday for about a month and a half when we were really in the thick of things. Even though we stayed in our car and/or socially distanced each trip, the change of scenery really helped with mental health; just being somewhere other than our house made things feel somewhat normal. It also helps differentiate the weekdays from the weekends and gave us something to look forward to every Saturday. As things have started opening up we’ve been shifting gears a bit, but still have some trips in store.
What are you looking forward to most after quarantine?
Locally, working out at a gym. About a year and a half ago I started boxing (hi Gloveworx fam!) and it became therapeutic for me to hit it out. It’s such a good community there, and I miss it so much. I’ve always thrived better in a group workout environment so I can’t wait to be in all of that again.
I also miss traveling so much, especially to New York City.
I’m obsessed with NYC, and I usually go about 4 -5 times a year for both business and pleasure. I was there in February, and this is the longest I’ve got without being there in probably 3 years.
How have you been staying healthy from home?
I’ve always been a big water drinker, and so I have a giant Yeti that I’m constantly filling up so I can stay hydrated. Even before we had to stay in, I would focus on cooking and eating healthier during the week so I could indulge a bit more on the weekends. I’ve tried to make sure I stick to that even know as best as I can.
I also try to get my workout done in the morning, even now. Despite the fact that many of us are at home, we’re still busy. Get your exercise in first thing, even if it’s just 30 minutes, so that no matter what your day throws at you, you’ll already have some movement in for the day.
You cook so much and everything looks AMAZING. Any good recipes to share? What’s your favorite thing to cook/bake?
I have always loved cooking and I’m trying to share more recipes that I love on the blog! I have a major sweet tooth and I fully believe in treating yourself. I’ve discovered so many yummy new recipes, but I love these chocolate chip cookies from Joanna Gaines.
Best work from home tips?
Here are also some quick tips:
- Set up a dedicated area that is specifically for work
- Try to maintain a “normal” work schedule (ie. 9-5)
- When your day is done, close your computer and put your things away. If you have a separate room, get up and close the door
These are small actions, but it’s important to mentally transition to and from work, even if you’re staying in the same place.
And finally… how do you balance it all??
I have a day planner and I’m a list girl. Every evening I write out what needs to be done the next day, and I select about 3 bigger tasks that are kind of the “must do” items. It doesn’t matter how small or big a task is, if I have to do it, it gos on my list. I’d also say maintaining that 9 – 5 mentality has also really helped. There are definitely days where I am unmotivated. On those days I give myself some grace; we’re human, and no matter how “good” you are at balancing things, there will be times when you’re not good at it. Throw on a face mask, put on some Sex and the City, and try again the next day.
