2017 Reading List

Confession: I do almost all of my reading on the internet. I get my news from the internet (trying to balance the sources I go to). I read a LOT of blogs – style (obviously), healthy living, beauty, decorating, politics, science. The list goes on and on. I scroll through my social media feeds, and fall for a lot of click bait on Facebook and Twitter. Sometimes it feels like too much, especially when you realize how much of news on the internet simply isn’t fact checked or verified. Or disappointing when I click on a post only to be left feeling unsatisfied and wanting more (hence the click bait). As entertaining as blogs and articles are, it’s just not the same as reading a good book.

2017 Reading List

loved reading growing up. I had more free time obviously. But I would pick up a book and not put it down until I finished it. I still try to read as much as I can, but with a full-time job and a blog, sometimes actual books fall to the wayside. I read somewhere (on the internet, lol) that setting small goals is best, so I’m starting small. At least 20 pages a day. Which is HARD for me because once I start, I can’t stop. Unless I fall asleep. But I really do want to read every day. And not just stuff on the internet!! I have a kindle that is collecting dust. Although, TBH I really prefer actual books. Is anyone else like that?

Here’s what on my 2017 reading list for now – but I’m always looking for good recommendations!! So please leave them below if you have any : ). I’m making a point to read even more in 2017 – and staying accountable by posting updates on the blog. Who’s with me?

Follow me on Instagram for more updates.

  1. I’m totally with you!! I can tell you’re a reader just from reading your writing. It’s very subtle but also obvious 🙂

I LOVE all the recommendations you’ve made! I’m a big fan of Michael Lewis’ books (and movies!) and “unfuck yourself” definitely made me laugh, lol. I actually just clicked on a series of books on my GoodReads.com account. But my favorite book from 2016 was definitely When Breath Becomes Air. Have you heard of it? It’s a nonfiction/autobiography kind of book written by a genius neurosurgen who was diagnosed with terminal cancer when it was in his early 30’s. He wrote this book as a way of documenting his life toward the end of it and also to express his views on life, love, and the meaning behind this all.. It’s very poignantly written and will definitely bring you to tears. It’s one of those books that really, really touches your soul, not just your emotions. I highly recommend it!

Ahh thank you Jessica! That’s such a nice thing to say!! Definitely want to read even MORE this year – currently halfway through You Are a Badass, which has some elements that feel a little new age-y to me but the overall message I love. I also use Goodreads – what do you think of the platform? Sometimes it’s a little difficult to use from a discovery aspect, there are SO many books and picking one to read can be overwhelming. Will have to check out When Breath Becomes Air – sounds like my kind of book!! xx

  2. BY the way, another book I really wanted to read this year is called “A Long Way Home” I think there’s a new movie that’s based on that (Lion ft. Dev Patel) that juts came out. In any case… it’s something I’m looking forward to reading!

I definitely want to read more this year! Like you I do lots of my reading online. I was so ashamed to admit, but I hadn’t read a book in like 6 years. So last year I picked up a book and read it cover to cover and it was literally the best feeling in the world! I have a few books on my list this year, and I am sticking to reading them! Hope you are having a great New Year so far lady. 🙂

I know I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover (ha!) but by only reading the tittle I really wanna read some of them! It’s part of my new years resolutions to read at least 12 books this year, and I need to check some of these out. TYSM

Adding “unfu*k yourself’ and ‘undoing project’ onto my reading list!!! i’ve been scouting for good books to read for this year!!! Just listened the sample audio book of ‘undoing project’ and I am already hooked!! I met the trader who use to sat next to Michael Lewis at Salomon at the North Korea marathon last year. Very interesting guy and told us a lot of the stories about Michael Lewis, which also made me to think – sometimes we think we are good at something, just because the society think that’s the most popular thing to be good at, doesn’t mean I have to follow what the society value the most. I think Michael is a much better writer than trader!
